Beco Do Choro

Performance Time Saturday 5/24/08 8:00
Style Authentic Brazilian Music.
Description Sometimes I book a band based solely on who the musicians are, never having heard them. This band is one of those bands. Now, I am really pleased to feature them for their second time at the Cafe, Kailin Youg, violinist from Boulder Acoustic Society and Strings of Tao, innovator of 'Chinesegrass'. Dexter Payne, voted in the top ten clarinet players in Downbeat Magazine 71st Annual Readers Poll. He has performed, recorded and given workshops in Rio de Janeiro with the patriarchs and innovators of Brazilian music. João Junqueira, well known guitarist, performer, composer, arranger, and CU lecturer and instructor. Francisco Marques, born in Sao Paulo, Brasil, classical guitar trained, plays 6 and 7 string guitar, bass, percussion, and vocals. He has studied guitar and cavaquinho with private instructors at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), in Salvador, Bahia. Structurally, Choro, the music performed this evening is typically in three parts, similar to a tango, sometimes found in both major and minor keys. More recently, Choro has attracted the attention of musicians in the United States, such as Mike Marshall, who have brought this kind of music to a new audience. Possibly from the lament of a feral child, the passion of Kailin Yong’s latest musical project is born. Maybe from an inner compass, one of the most talented violinist to grace our stage, brought forth another gathering of true virtuosos. Join us for an evening that transcends the boundaries between beings, spirits, and cultures. Frankly, I’m not sure what to expect.
