The F Street Sheiks prowled the streets of Salida with their authentic blend of real-deal jug-band, hokum and rag-time music up until 2004, when they scattered to three different states. They are reuniting for a few gigs this summer after six years. Members are: "Deacon" Aaron Thomas (King of the Long Pole) doing vocals, washtub bass and jug; Brett "Smokestack" Davis on the guitars, tenor banjo and vocals; and Mark "No Exciting Nickname" Minor on ukulele, fiddle, mandolin, slide geetar and jug. We'll also be joined by jug band aficionado Jon Hickam of Hotchkiss (North Fork Cherry Pickers, 32-20 Jug Band) on the mando, guitar and vocals.
The Sheiks live by the credo that Jug Band music was the Punk Music of the twenties. That and "We never met a jug we couldn't enjoy". They play loud, live fast, and are in bed by 10 o'clock. Resurrecting the Ghost of Gus Cannon since 2001
